Normally, the Khajiit are able to scare away this type of nuisance, but this time the bandits made off with his heirloom amulet. The amulet was given to him by his mother when he was a cub, and is the only thing to keep him warm in this cold land. When you tell him that you will retrieve it for him, he is appreciative of your desire to help, but will also say that it is not enough to lose your life over. Another historic house, known as “The Castle,” which previously held the record for California’s oldest house, was moved alongside it. Unfortunately, in 1975, vagrants started a fire that damaged Harlow House and destroyed The Castle.

Harlow House is a classic representation of the Greek Revival Italianate style popular around the Civil War, as demonstrated through the bold moldings, slanted eaves, and arcade porch. The entire house has been lovingly preserved by descendants of the Harlow family for almost 150 years. Via bookshelf enter a small Dwemer chamber where the body of Bjornolfr can be found together with a Bloodstained Letter. A Letter and Hrodulf's Journal tell a sordid story of what happened.

Lying on the ground is Bjornolfr, who obviously found the journal and went down there looking for his lover, but found the two reavers instead. On his body you will find a bloodstained letter, Hrodulf's cryptic plea to Bjornolfr to stay away from the house. The chamber itself contains various dwemer artifacts, three dwarven metal ingots, two dwemer chests, one of them boss-leveled, and some gold coins scattered around.
About Harlow House
An apothecary's satchel and Ildari's journal are on top of the two stacked coffins in the middle of the room, with a knapsack containing the Fort Frostmoth key and other loot next to the coffins. Beyond the webbed doorway to the west is another partly collapsed tunnel leading down. The bodies of the albino spiders can be looted for albino spider pods and damaged albino spider pods, which can be used to create spider scrolls in White Ridge Barrow.

Hrodulf, however, is still missing and nothing will point you to his location. Returning again to the previous room, the tunnel descending to the north leads to a corridor lined with two rows of coffins, five of which can be looted for bone meal, bones, low-quality clothing, or a few coins. A pair of iron gauntlets is next to the lower coffin on the right. At the end of the corridor is an east-west corridor lined with more coffins, with an ash spawn to the west.

When you find Bjornolfr's body, he carries a bloodstained letter from Hrodulf warning him not to come there. The letter is from a Solitude citizen named Bjornolfr and is addressed to his lover, Hrodulf. In the letter Bjornolfr shows great concern about the welfare of Hrodulf, and encourages him to leave Solstheim and return to Solitude. Look around the room and locate Hrodulf's journal on the crate to the north. Read through it and learn about the growing madness of newcomer Hrodulf who moved into the house, only to be obsessed with a strange rumbling from the basement, in his own words, "a calling from the depths".
In the northeast corner are two bulbs of garlic on the floor and a garlic braid hanging from a rack. Exiting through the trapdoor leads to the roof of the north building's tower. Dispose of them and look around for some minor loot in a chest, an East Empire Company strongbox holding a pendant for the quest Pain in the Necklace, and finally, a trap door leading to a secret underground basement. The building itself is badly damaged, with holes in the walls and part of the roof missing. In fact, the whole of the northwest corner of the house has gone; the ash is piled high in the corners of the house, and most of the remaining furniture has been pushed together and jumbled up. An unlocked chest against part of the south wall contains low-level loot, and to the right of the chest is a trapdoor that leads to the cellar.
